Remotely Control Bliro Using Links in Microsoft Dynamics 365

Learn how to add a Start Bliro Meeting button to Microsoft Dynamics 365 using a JavaScript web resource and command bar button.

Written by Laura Fuchs

The Remote Control feature becomes even more powerful when integrated with Microsoft Dynamics 365. In this article, an example implementation will be provided to add a Bliro Meeting button to Dynamics 365, allowing users to:

  • Start a Bliro Meeting directly from the Dynamics 365 UI.

  • Associate the Bliro Meeting with the specific Dynamics 365 record from which it was initiated.

While this approach can be applied to any Dynamics 365 entity, the Account entity will be used for this guide. By the end, a "Start Bliro Meeting" button will be available on the Dynamics 365 Account command bar.

Step 1: Create a JavaScript Web Resource

A small JavaScript function is needed to construct the Bliro link and launch it with the current record's ID.

1.1 Access the Dynamics 365 Customizations

  1. Open your Dynamics 365 environment.

  2. Navigate to Settings → Customizations → Customize the System (or open Power Apps, select your solution, and click New → Web Resource).

1.2 Create the Web Resource

  1. In the Solution Explorer, click Web Resources → New.

  2. Configure the web resource as follows:

    • Name: bliro_StartMeeting

    • Display Name: Bliro – Start Meeting

    • Type: Script (JScript)

  3. Click Text Editor and paste the following JavaScript:

    var Bliro = Bliro || {};Bliro.startMeeting = function (entityType) {    var recordId = Xrm.Page.data.entity.getId().replace(/[{}]/g, "");    var url = "https://app.bliro.io/a/start-call"        + "?system=dynamics365"        + "&record=" + entityType        + "&recordId=" + recordId;    window.open(url, "_blank");};

  4. Click OK, then click Save and Publish.

Step 2: Add a Command Bar Button to the Account Form

Once the web resource is published, a button must be added to the Account command bar that calls the function.

2.1 Open the Command Bar Editor

  1. In Power Apps, navigate to your model-driven app.

  2. Click Edit to open the app designer.

  3. Select the Account table and click Edit command bar.

  4. Choose Main form as the surface to edit and click Edit.

2.2 Create the Button

  1. Click + New to add a new command.

  2. Set the Label to Start Bliro Meeting.

  3. Optionally, upload the Bliro icon as the button icon for easy recognition.

2.3 Configure the Action

  1. Under Action, select Run JavaScript.

  2. In the Library field, select the web resource created in Step 1 (bliro_StartMeeting).

  3. Set the Function name to Bliro.startMeeting.

  4. Under Parameters, add one parameter:

    • Type: String

    • Value: account (replace with the actual entity logical name for other entities)

  5. Set Visibility rules as needed (e.g., only show when a record is open).

  6. Click Save and Publish.

Step 3: Test the Integration in Dynamics 365

  1. Open any Account record in Dynamics 365.

  2. Locate the newly created "Start Bliro Meeting" button in the command bar.

  3. Click the button – the Bliro Desktop App (or Bliro mobile, if using universal links) will launch and start a new meeting automatically associated with the Account record.

The integration of Bliro Meetings with Dynamics 365 is now complete. Users can initiate a Bliro Meeting with a single click while automatically linking it to the relevant record. 🚀

Applying This to Other Entities

The same approach works for any Dynamics 365 entity. Simply:

  1. Repeat Steps 2–3 for the desired entity (e.g., Opportunity, Contact, Lead).

  2. When configuring the button parameter in Step 2.3, replace account with the entity logical name (e.g., opportunity, contact, lead).

Best Practices & Tips

Keep Bliro Running

  • For desktop protocol links (bliro-desktop://): the Bliro desktop app must be running for the command to execute.

  • For universal links (https://app.bliro.io/a/) 🆕: the relevant app (desktop or mobile) will launch as needed.

  • Use universal links when your users may be on both desktop and mobile. To switch, replace the URL in the JavaScript with the desktop protocol format: bliro-desktop://start-call?system=dynamics365&record=...

  • Stick with desktop protocol links when users are always on desktop.

Verify Parameter Names

  • Using system, record and recordId is just one example how parameters support data matching with third party systems.

  • Bliro supports all kinds of other parameters like foo=bar

Test on Different OS & Speeds

  • Timing may vary on different hardware.

  • If you have slow systems or older hardware, test thoroughly to ensure consistent performance.

Handle Missing Calls Gracefully

  • If there's no active call, end-call will do nothing.

  • Ensure external tools handle this case smoothly.
